We understand how critical it is to get your drainage and wastewater solutions right from the start. Our percolation tests are designed to assess your site's suitability for septic tanks or sewage treatment plants, ensuring full compliance with NIEA regulations and delivering long-term performance.
Our experienced team provides comprehensive site assessments to determine the best solution for your property. We manage the entire process, including:
Excavating and preparing test holes to NIEA standards.
Performing soakaway/percolation tests to measure soil absorption capability.
Supplying a detailed report with results and recommendations.
Assisting with Consent to Discharge applications—handling the paperwork for you.
We’ll ensure your drainage design is compliant, cost-effective, and reliable.
Usually two or more test holes (typically 300mm x 300mm x 1100mm deep).
Filling with water and recording drainage times over several intervals.
We then calculate the soil’s average percolation rate to determine if your land is suitable.
A percolation test is required to:
1.Determine suitability for soakaway or drainage fields.
2. Size your drainage system correctly.
3. Support Consent to Discharge applications as part of NIEA requirements.
Prevent issues like flooding, pollution, or system failure.
Whether you’re planning a new installation, upgrading an existing system, or replacing a damaged soakaway, this test is a crucial first step.
Drainage fields (or soakaway systems) disperse treated effluent into the ground via a network of perforated pipes. These pipes:
Safely release the effluent over a wide area.
Allow natural soil bacteria to further purify the wastewater.
Are vital for safe, eco-friendly disposal of treated water.
Our team can design and install efficient drainage fields that fully meet your property’s needs.
The soil type on your property greatly impacts:
Drainage speed and effectiveness.
The design and viability of your soakaway system.
Compliance with environmental standards.
We’ll assess your soil type and advise on the best course of action, even if a traditional soakaway isn’t suitable.
After you have carried out your percolation test, the consent application forms can be filled in by Depawater Ltd.
An application fee is also required by NIEA and is not included within our pricing structure. The NIEA fee is dependent on the chosen discharge option.
Current application fees to the NIEA are as follows:
Discharge to subsurface irrigation – (Fees are subject to change please contact us)
Discharge to waterway – (Fees are subject to change please contact us)
